New Orleans: 4 Day Itinerary

Day 1: French Quarter and Riverfront

  • Start your day with a classic New Orleans breakfast at Cafe Du Monde, famous for their beignets and coffee with chicory.

  • Walk through the French Quarter, admiring the beautiful architecture and colorful buildings. Stop by Jackson Square and the St. Louis Cathedral.

  • Take a stroll along the Riverfront, enjoying the view of the Mississippi River and the historic steamboats.

  • Have lunch at one of the many restaurants in the French Quarter. Try some traditional Cajun and Creole cuisine at places like Antoine's, Brennan's or Commander's Palace.

  • In the afternoon, visit the New Orleans Museum of Art or the Ogden Museum of Southern Art to see some fantastic works of art.

  • End the day with a sunset jazz cruise on the river.

Day 2: Garden District and Uptown

  • Spend the morning exploring the historic Garden District, famous for its beautiful homes and lush gardens. Take a guided tour or stroll around on your own.

  • Visit Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, one of the oldest and most famous cemeteries in New Orleans.

  • Have lunch at one of the many cafes or restaurants on Magazine Street, a popular shopping and dining destination in the Garden District.

  • In the afternoon, head to the Audubon Zoo or the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas to see some amazing animals and sea creatures.

  • Enjoy the evening with dinner and drinks at one of the many bars and restaurants on Oak Street in Uptown.

Day 3: Plantations and Swamps

  • Take a day trip to explore the surrounding areas of New Orleans. Start with a visit to one of the historic plantations along the Mississippi River, such as Oak Alley or Laura Plantation.

  • Take a swamp tour to see some of the unique wildlife and landscapes that Louisiana is famous for. Airboat tours are a thrilling way to explore the swamps, while pontoon boat tours offer a more relaxed experience.

  • End the day with dinner and drinks in one of the nearby towns, like Covington or Mandeville.

Day 4: Music and Food

  • Start the day with breakfast at one of the many cafes in the Marigny neighborhood, like Cake Cafe or Elizabeth's.

  • Spend the morning exploring the vibrant music scene in New Orleans. Visit Preservation Hall to see some of the city's best jazz musicians or head to Frenchmen Street for a variety of live music venues.

  • Have lunch at one of the famous po'boy shops in the city, like Parkway Bakery and Tavern or Domilise's.

  • In the afternoon, visit the National WWII Museum, which tells the story of the war through interactive exhibits and artifacts.

  • End the day with a dinner at one of the many top-rated restaurants in the city, like Herbsaint, August or Cochon.
